What is Absinthe?
Absinthe is a spirit made out of various plant extracts, among which the “Artemisia Absinthium”
or common wormwood. These extracts are macerated before distillation.
There are traces of wormwood based spirits that go back to ancient times. However, absinthe as we know it come from a recipe invented by a priest and used as medicine.
During the nineteenth century, members of the high society began drinking absinthe for sheer pleasure and it’s popularity grew until it was finally banned in 1915.
It was only during the eighties that the making of absinthe started again, this time under strict agro alimentary regulations.
